With the launch of the Salmon fishing season, we would like to take this opportunity to thank our sponsors for their continued generous support for our Opening Day Ceremony.  We are very grateful to Walkers Shortbread, Aberlour Distillery and Le Petit Gourmond for providing excellent hospitality and for the generous donation of prizes.

We would also like to thank the River Spey Anglers Association for their support and for providing information about angling and also for providing demonstrations on fly-tying to the many visitors and anglers who braved the chilly morning.

This year we held a raffle draw which raised a total of £450 for the continued work of the Spey Foundation. We would like to thank Fishpal, JAJ Munro Fishing Tackle Shop, Walkers Shortbread and Aberlour Distillery for their generous donation of prizes.  The raffle was drawn at the prize giving at the Aberlour Distillery on the 11th February by Evelyn Glass, winner of the 1st Salmon caught. The lucky winners were:

1st Prize – £200 Fishpal – William  Mountain

2nd Prize – Bottle of Aberlour 15 yr old Select Cask Reserve Single Malt Whisky – George Robertson

3rd & 4th Prizes – Walkers Shortbread hampers – John Trodden & Peter Graham

5th & 6th Prizes – £25 Gift Vouchers Munros Tackle Shop – Steve Gross & Angus Robertson, MP

The winner of the 2017 Anniversary Quaich was awarded to Evelyn Glass for catching the first salmon of the season at Junction Pool, Rothes, with attending ghillie, Robbie Stronach.  This is not the first time that Evelyn has won as she landed the first salmon at Orton in 2009 and also the heaviest a couple of years previously.
