15th November: River restoration visit for local businesses

Guests of the River Dee Trust enjoyed a guided visit to Glen Muick on November 7 to see the progress of the transformational Save The Spring partnership programme.

River Dee Guardians APEX Tubulars, together with guests from local businesses including Petrofac and Yellow Welly Tours, joined the River Dee team for a morning of insights and discussion in a walk and talk on the spectacular Glen Muick.

Save The Spring is an innovative 20-year scheme targeting conservation and river restoration processes to benefit the full length of the Dee from its source high in the Cairngorms, through the communities along its banks, down to the Port of Aberdeen.

The River’s development and promotions officer Debbie Cooper commented: “It is difficult to explain the scale and scope of all the elements of Save The Spring, so it is brilliant to be able to show people just how transformational the project is out on the catchment.

“Our operations manager Edwin Third was on hand to explain the importance of our tree planting and the impact of the installation of large woody structures for the future of the river and its wildlife – we were even lucky enough to see freshly created Atlantic salmon Redds, or nests.”
