Over winter, we reared brown trout in a micro hatchery at Glenbuck near the source of the River Ayr. This project was designed to overcome the water quality and habitat issues that affect the lower reaches of the burn where trout from the loch spawn unsuccessfully each winter. Egg box trials revealed that eggs naturally laid in the iron impacted gravels fail to survive and hatch As part of any stocking effort, it is appropriate that the results are monitored and we made this video after undertaking electrofish surveys to assess juvenile survival.
