Extreme E were shortlisted following recognition of the organisation’s longterm approach in placing a purpose led sport alongside meaningful partnerships and local activations, including the launch of the Extreme H hydrogen racing car on board the St Helena in June, and its first test at the Hydro X Prix in Scotland a few weeks later.

Ali Russell, Managing Director of Extreme E, said: “We are incredibly proud to be shortlisted for the BBC Green Sports Awards in the Elite Organisation category.

At Extreme E, sustainability is at the heart of everything we do, from pioneering hydrogen-powered motorsport to leaving positive legacies in the communities we race in. This recognition by the BBC is a testament to our team’s dedication to pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in sport for purpose, and we’re thrilled to be leading the charge in showcasing how motorsport can drive real, impactful change for the planet.”

In their third year, the BBC Green Sports Awards are a celebration of the sports people and organisations who are combining their passions of sport and sustainability to drive change and promote a greener future.

In addition to unveiling Extreme E’s new hydrogen racing car this year, the series reached a key milestone at its most recent event in Scotland when it confirmed it had powered 80 per cent of its race site with hydrogen fuel cells.
