River Tweed Commission - Fishery Officer

The River Tweed Commission (RTC) the fisheries regulator for the Tweed District has a vacancy for a Fishery Officer to undertake fishery regulation and conservation duties. The post holder will be based around the Melrose area but will operate over the whole Tweed District.

The purpose of the job will be to operate as a Fishery Officer in compliance with legislation laid out under the Tweed Order 2006 and codes of practice and in conjunction with other Fishery Officers, on land, river or sea to detect and apprehend poachers, including anyone involved in the laundering of illegally taken fish to the open market, and as instructed by the Head Fishery Officer.

To work closely with, The Tweed Foundation and other agencies in environmental management and conducting surveys and investigations as required; to monitor and record the rivers and still waters  in the Tweed District; to undertake habitat maintenance and repairs; to undertake basic scientific data collection and assist in the running of study facilities, and to monitor in-river obstacles, as instructed by the Head Fishery Officer.

To act as an ambassador for the River Tweed Commission, communicating the RTC's message to anglers, boatmen, and all other members of the public, and to help to disseminate information to those on the River, educating and enhancing the RTC's core messages, as instructed.

Skye & Lochalsh Rivers Trust - Director

SLRT is currently recruiting a full time, permanent Trust Director to lead our small team and who will be responsible for the leadership, strategy development, and grant identification and management of our organisation. The Trust Director will report to the Trust Chair and will direct the work of the SLRT staff including the Trust’s Fisheries Biologist, Administrator, and seasonal field assistants. The Trust Director will have the opportunity to support the Fisheries Biologist and staff when their schedule allows, but field work will not be the primary focus of the Director’s responsibilities. The successful applicant will design annual work programmes and budgets, produce formal reports, present project results, meet with clients and stakeholders, engage in meetings with aquaculture operators and regulating bodies, and identify funding opportunities for restoration and conservation projects.

SISI is looking for a dynamic Project Officer to join theteam, working with their partner the Esk District Salmon Fishery Board and covering the rivers North Esk, South Esk and Bervie.

Tweed Foundation - Biologist / Operations Team Leader Vacancy

An exciting opportunity has arisen with the Tweed Foundation, based in the Scottish Borders, South Scotland. They are seeking a Biologist—operations team leader to join their team.

The Tweed Foundation is a Charitable Company Limited by Guarantee and works closely with the River Tweed Commission (RTC), the statutory body responsible for the Tweed District, to promote the development of fish stocks in the Tweed River System.

The Tweed Foundation works to advance, for public benefit, environmental protection and improvement by conserving and enhancing all species of freshwater fish and their environments in the waters of the Tweed & Eye Fisheries District. It does this through the study and monitoring of aquatic ecosystems, including their fauna, flora and economic or social activity, leading to the protection, conservation, rehabilitation, and improvement of aquatic environments that fish depend upon. It also seeks to advance the development of the conservation and management of fish and fishery resources, water quality, environmental conservation, education and participation in sporting or recreational activities in connection with these resources.

The biologist Operations Team Leader will manage all operational aspects of the Tweed Foundation’s work on Salmon, Trout, Grayling and other species, as required.
