TV presenter Anne McAlpine and world Spey casting champion Scott Mackenzie opened the River Deveron salmon season.
The ceremony at the Turriff Angling Association lodge saw the Morison Trophy presented to the angler who caught the heaviest fly caught salmon which was witnessed and returned during the previous year.
The River Deveron District Salmon Fishery Board and the Deveron, Bogie and Isla Rivers Charitable Trust welcomed special guests Anne McAlpine and Scott Mackenzie.
Anne McAlpine is a journalist, newsreader and weather presenter for BBC Alba and BBC Scotland, best known for presenting Reporting Scotland and Landward.
Scott Mackenzie is a master salmon angler, world Spey casting champion, founder of the Mackenzie Fly Fishing Tackle Company and previously worked on the River Deveron.
They had the honour of opening the salmon season with The Deveron single malt whisky. The winner of the Morison Trophy for 2025, Ronald Ewen, made the first cast.
Mr Ewen secured the trophy for the second time by landing a 21lb salmon at Montcoffer. Henderson’s Country Sports (Turriff) was the sponsor of the salmon rod which was presented to Mr Ewen in recognition of carefully releasing the winning salmon.
The ceremony also welcomed pupils and teachers from Banff Academy who launched their new project, The Living River, which focuses on the River Deveron.
