Many people will be aware that for the last two years, Scottish rivers have been categorised according to their Conservation Status and the likelihood of them achieving their conservation limits. In September 2017, the Scottish Government went out to consultation on their proposed river categorisations for 2018 and the Spey, once again, is proposed to be a Category 1 river. The Spey Fishery Board still has significant concerns, though, about deficiencies with the model that is being used to determine these categorisations and the impacts it is having on Scottish rivers.
