Fisheries Management Scotland consider that training and continuing professional development (CPD) are a vital element of ensuring and demonstrating the competency and professionalism of staff employed within the fisheries management sector. We also recognise that training and CPD is ultimately the responsibility of the employer. The matrix below is designed to help and support our member DSFBs and Trusts in training and CPD by providing information on potential training opportunities which meet the needs of the sector.

The matrix below is based around a list of knowledge and key skills which was initially developed by the Institute of Fisheries Management and subsequently by the Scottish Government Training and CPD Working Group. The database can be searched by work areas or job role, but the training courses are not necessarily specific to particular roles or work areas (e.g. first aid, manual handling). Where possible we have attempted to identify a range of training options, ranging from free, online courses, to multi-day formal courses. The matrix remains a live document and we are keen to receive feedback and updates about suitable courses, particularly those that have been successfully used by our members.
