A 38m long culvert under the A95 road on the Glenbeg Burn (a spawning tributary), just south of Grantown, has been made far more fish-friendly in an initiative sparked by an online auction, organised by gillie Jock Royan. With additional funding and support from Transport Scotland and Bear Scotland, baffles along the entire length of the culvert have now been fitted; as a consequence the depth of water has been doubled and the water speed halved, greatly improving the culvert for upstream migration. Full details (including before and after photos) are on Brian Shaw’s Spey Board blog.
