An application by Fish Legal, on behalf of the Tay DSFB, for a bye-lay regulating the use of the Upper Tay by commercial rafting companies was recently rejected by Perth and Kinross Council’s Community Safety Committee.

Fish Legal made the application on behalf the Tay District Salmon Fishery Board which has a legal duty to protect and enhance the fisheries on the River Tay.  Since the passage of the Land Reform (Scotland) Act in 2003 the number of rafters using the upper Tay has increased markedly, with the result that fishing effort and catches have collapsed with a knock-on effect on the capital and rental values of the fisheries.
