The Environment Agency have just published comprehensive guidance on creating riparian shading on rivers. The guidance has been produced to support the creation of shade over rivers using riparian trees and vegetation (riparian shade). The focus is on maintaining suitable freshwater habitat for salmon and brown trout (salmonid) populations that are expected to be at risk from the effects of climate change.
