Earlier than anywhere else in Ayrshire, trout begin spawning in the Stottencleugh Burn as the ground water inputs in this burn are cooler than other similar size burns in the catchment. These trout spawning at the head of the Ayr catchment are destined to fail. The anoxic conditions in the gravel kill the eggs as we’ve proven with egg box trials.
