Mixed Stock Fisheries catch fish from multiple river systems and their management is of interest in salmon conservation terms at both National and International levels.

ASFB will be meeting to discuss this shortly but

  1. The spring fraction of the salmon population is fragile.
  2. Early season catch and release policies promoted by river boards coupled with netting conservation measures in recent years have led to virtually all of the spring stock reaching spawning areas to breed successfully.
  3. All those involved should think long and hard before taking any action which might compromise the future wellbeing of salmon.

Both netting and rod interests are represented on District Salmon Fishery Boards and local discussions should take place within the boards.
